My parents are paying for my dress and his parents are not contributing at all. I don't mind, but I would have thought they might have paid the price for the DJ or something.

I've been reading this forum for 6 months and never posted but I have to post to this. My parents are really well off, but they will not contribute to my wedding. They say it is antiquated and it is up to us to secure our wedding

Yes we are paying for the whole thing. Why wouldn't we? It's our wedding! I pressume my parents will buy a nice gift, but it is not their business to foot the bill for it.

Mine are paying for the photographer, my partners parents are paying to decorate the reception. Other than that we are on our own. I'm perfectly happy with this, it means we can have the wedding we want without interference

Yes, neither of our parents are paying (nor did we want them to) but they did buy some furniture for us when we first moved in together, which was more important at the time.
