And if so what are you having as an alternative? This isn't for me, this is a friend who wants to get married next year but is having problems with her budget - the sit down meal being a large portion of it. Any suggestions welcome.

Carvery could be cheaper, or just a buffet? There's no law about a sit down meal.

She could have the starter and the main course, then use her wedding cake as the dessert. That can save quite a bit of money.
