Who do I ask? 2 Years, 5 Months ago

My dear Dad passed away when I was 9. Mum remarried and I get along OK with my stepfather. I am in dispute as to ask my stepfather or my brother to walk me down the isle. Me and my brother are so close, but I worry that my stepfather will feel it is his duty as he has been in my life since I was 15. What to do?

Unless there is any real issues with you and Stepdad I think you should as him. Your brother wont be expecting to be asked but your stepdad will. Your brother can also play an important roll in the wedding, or have him mentioned in the speeches that you are so close. Imagine how it will look to your guests if you leave your stepdad out? or how it will make him feel?

I agree totally with sarah34. Have you spoken to your family about it?

Why not have them BOTH walk you down the aisle?
After all it is your wedding day so you can essentially make or break the rules.

That is a good idea. I have seen that before. Brides Father was in a wheelchair, so the Bride was escorted down the isle by her Gay exboyfriend (which wasn't actually as weird as it sounds) and he pushed her father in the wheelchair.

Thank you so much everyone for your help. Sorry for the delay in answering but we are just back from Worcester for Christmas and New Year. I like the idea of both of them because my brother really has been like a father to me and my Stepdad whilst nice enough has only been in my life a while, so I think I will indeed ask them both. I would never have thought of that so thanks again.

Anything goes nowadays. We often see the Mother of the bride giving her away - and giving the Father of the Bride's speech if the Dad is no longer around. Sometimes it is even the bride's son who perform's that role -if she has one old enough who is happy to take his father's place - or the bride could just walk down the aisle by herself with the bridesmaids and ask the Matron of honour to fill the gap.
