Fiesty, fiery and full of drama, Mexico's hot on honeymoon fun too! Along the sugar-sand shores are cosmopolitan resorts with every contemporary comfort. Deep in the interior are steamy jungles, spectacular highlands and Mayan ruins steeped in myth and mystery.
With a Caribbean coastline and Mediterranean character, Mexico is matchless! Cancun's twin beaches and Aqua World water sports centre are lively, upbeat and fun. Cancun does indeed have a strong American influence. You could swim with dolphins at Xcaret eco-park. With mile upon endless miles of soft white sand which hems the coast from Cancun to Tulum incorporating both quiet coves and busy bays backed by lavish resorts.
Plays Del Carmen is blessed with glorious beaches and crystal-clear waters; while simpler smaller and more laid back than Cancun, it has many restaurants, bars and shops on offer. The sea here is an inviting turquoise but in places there is a strong undertow. The Riviera Mays stretches along the eastern coast for 130km, a long flat expanse which encompasses lush tropical vegetation and pure white sands. Fantastic sandy beaches and turquoise waters run the length of the region's shores, and you'll find water activities from windsurfing to deep sea fishing on offer throughought the Riviera. J ust 40 minutes south of Cancun lies the sophisticated resort of Playacar, a haven for people wanting to escape from everything and enjoy the tropical lifestyle. Playacar is slightly quieter than its neighbouring town Plays del Carmen, yet this is still a vibrant town with a number of activities on offer. The crystal clear waters of the Jucatan Peninsula are home to a huge array of water sprots to experience, while the soft sand beaches will entice you to relax and unwind. Days spent relaxing and soaking up the laid back life of Playacar, will reveal how this area has become the essence of the Mexican Caribbean coast. This exquisite stretch of beaches is arguably some of the best in the Caribbean. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chichen Itza Pyramid is an unmissable attraction and Tulum's cliff-top fortress is truly dramatic. There are boat trips to the Mujeres Island Sanctuary of the endangered turtle species, and Cozumels talcum sands are launch pads for offshore coral reefs. There is still evidence today of the Mayan civilisation and just 115 miles from Cancun is the truly spectacular ruined Mayan city at Chichen Itza, which rises out of the bush like the edifices of the Lost World. It would not be right to visit Mexico without visiting these awe-inspriing ruins, the most famous and complete of the Mayan sites.
If you chose to book your Honeymoon in Mexico be aware of when the US College holidays fall, particularly Spring Break, when Mexico ceases to be a honeymoon haven and becomes a non stop Party! Hurricane season should also be noted as being June through to October. |
