South Africa

Located on the southern tip of the African continent, South Africa  is a nation of more than 48 million people of diverse origins, cultures, languages, and religions. South Africans have been referred to as the 'rainbow nation', a title which epitomises the country's cultural diversity, and is the adventure capital of the world with rich culture, wildlife and natural beauty.

As well as stunning safari parks, there are endless beaches, buzzing cities, stunning mountain ranges and dramatic winelands.

South Africa is a  subtropical location, moderated by ocean on three sides of the country and the altitude of the interior plateau, account for the warm temperate conditions so typical of South Africa - and so popular with its foreign visitors. South Africa is famous for its sunshine. It's a relatively dry country.

Cape Town, Mother City of Africa, and the Western Cape, an area which is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The City is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, aswell as local tribes.  Its history is reflected in the architecture, cuisine, music and dance.

The impressive presence of Table Mountain & the legendary Devil's Peak flanked by beautiful white sandy beaches along a peaceful coastline that frame the Cape Peninsula, which is famed for its unique floral kingdom, bountiful rivers, dams and magnificent countryside. The surrounding area extends far into the winelands, green in summer and red-gold in autumn. Indeed the warm summer, the temperate winter climate and a friendly community... the Western Cape and the Mother City are an ideal honeymoon destination whatever time of year you go.

Cape Town boasts a multitude of entertainment, ranging from outdoor activities and adventures in the sun to a roaring night life under neon signs. The vast range of shopping opportunities includes haggling with shopholders at Greenmarket Square Flea Market, as well as breezing through sophisticated and stylish shopping malls. The huge variety of restaurants reflects the multicultured history of the Cape and caters for everyone's taste, from fast-food outlets and casual to the chic to the very elegant. Cape Town provides a setting for many scenic wonders, magnificent seascapes and panoramic vistas.

No visit to South Africa would be complete without experiencing the sort of wildlife most of us have only seen in a Zoo. Staying in Kruger National Park or one of the surrounding private game reserves is ideal during a visit to South Africa. The safari and game lodges range from artistically elegant to super luxurious with en-suite bathroom facilities. The expert game rangers whisk you off on game drives and walking safaris, tracking the wildlife in their natural habitat. There is a huge choice of other tours that can be chosen to fully take in amazing South Africa.

South Africa’s eclectic cuisine is bursting with competing flavours, hardly surprising given its rich and varied origins. Portuguese, Dutch, Indian, Moroccan, French and even Japanese influences all feature prominently on menus, infused with herbs and spices to give it a unique South African flavour. Washed down with a glass or two of world-class wine from the country’s celebrated vineyards.

Summer (mid-October to mid-February) is characterised by hot, sunny weather - often with afternoon thunderstorms that clear quickly, leaving a warm, earthy, uniquely African smell in the air. Autumn (mid-February to April) offers in some ways the best weather. Here the grey winter is forgotten as thousands of small, otherwise insignificant plants cover the plains in an iridescent carpet of flowers.
