Sunset BeachA Honeymoon or a Wedding abroad is the most important trip that you will ever make so it is important to get every detail right. We asked a leading expert in travel, specialising in Destination Weddings and Honeymoons

When should I book my honeymoon?

We recommend that you book as soon as possible so that you get the choice of flights, hotel rooms and the destination that you would like to go to. This very important if you are travelling at peak times such as Christmas and school holidays.

Why should I use an experienced Travel Agent ?

An experienced Travel Agent will be able to save you time and money in arranging your honeymoon. They can also offer you advice on passport, visas, inoculations etc and make sure that every detail is covered.

What if my future husband and I like to do different things?

Many destinations and hotels offer a range of different activities. The best thing would be to write down what you both want from your honeymoon and your travel agent will be able to find a suitable destination for you both. Alternatively, you could opt for a twin centre holiday by taking a city break followed by a relaxing week or two at a beach resort.

I would like a nice honeymoon but have a small budget?

A European city break can make a great honeymoon and would be perfect for creating memories to last a life time. Alternatively, you could opt for a UK break and a short stay in one of the country's top hotels.

Will I save money by going all inclusive?

This is a good option if you have a budget that you do not wish to go over. You will know what you have paid for in advance and will have to spend very little whilst in resort. You are usually likely to pay for personal items and motorised sports.

What if I go somewhere tropical like the Caribbean and there is a hurricane?Couple on a beach

This is a good point and some Resorts such as "Sandals" offer a hurricane guarantee which will give you peace of mind.

Should I travel in my maiden name or married name?

Your passport is the one document you can get changed for up to three months before you get married, to show your married name. However, your new passport will only be valid from the date of your wedding since it will be post dated. Please note, if the country you are visiting requires a visa, check with your travel agent (or the country's embassy) to ensure that a visa can be stamped in a post dated passport. If this is not possible, you will need to travel using your passport in your maiden name.

Getting married can be a very expensive time. I want the Honeymoon of my dreams but not too sure our budget will stretch to it. Do some companies offer payment plans?

A few companies offer a Bridal registry where guests can contribute towards the honeymoon. This is an alternative wedding list and you may end up not having to pay for your honeymoon at all!

I'm thinking of having my honeymoon on board a cruise. Is it expensive?

There are many options available for today's cruise passenger. Cruises are excellent value for money as all meals and entertainment are included and can provide the opportunity of visiting many different countries in one holiday. You can also experience a cruise for just 3 or 4 nights which can be a really inexpensive option.

I have purchased wedding insurance which covers the cost of the honeymoon if I have to cancel. Will I still need travel insurance?

You need to check your policy very carefully as there are a lot more things that may not be covered. Specialist Travel insurance will cover you if you are unwell while abroad and will also cover you for loss of items or theft. You may also need insurance which covers you for sporting activities while on holiday.
