An important factor in choosing your music is the setting for your wedding ceremony. If you are having a civil ceremony you may NOT use music that has any kind of religious connotations. Otherwise you may choose just about any kind of music you like, but unlike cousin Carly try to stay within the bounds of good taste for crying out loud! If your ceremony will be in a religious location, you will probably need to stay within guidelines set by Da Establishment! Most religious denominations consider a wedding ceremony to be a form of worship service. For this reason, they can sometimes get a bit snotty about "secular" music (non-religious popular music) during a wedding. Check with the Top Geezer where your wedding will be held for its specific guidelines. For religious ceremonies the lyrics in songs that make respectful references to all matters holy are almost certainly acceptable. Many religious services will also allow a song that does not make specific reference to a deity, as long as it focuses on religious ideals and values relating to love and marriage. Pump up the Jam by Technotronic therefore is not acceptable. Many Churchy type weddings have an organist. This person will probably be happy to play various pieces for you that can be used for the processionals and the recessional. When you're choosing those particular pieces, keep the length of the aisle in mind. Make sure the church organist knows exactly what you are after! Daft cousin Carly asked for the theme tune to Robin Hood prince of thieves and due to miscommunication ended up trotting down the isle to Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding through the glen! Choosing your choons! The Rev will let you know how many pieces of music are required and may even help you select appropriate music for those of you who only recognize songs by Westlife as being worthy choons. Your local Library may have tapes or CD’s that you can borrow to broaden your classical taste buds. For both civil and religious ceremonies many couples are having a string quartet or Harpist, should they be lucky enough to afford it. They can be expensive and require early booking but the results are spectacular and proper posh like. If you are having a wedding with some kind of theme, consider this when planning the music. I list below some popular choices.
