Childrens wedding menuIf you are having youngsters at your wedding breakfast, you do not need to be Super Nanny to know that children can often be fussy eaters.

The well presented feast of delights you are serving the adults may not be a child’s food of choice. The dilemma of what to serve children is often left until last minute, followed by a hasty decision to serve Chicken Nuggets.

The choice of a ‘fast food’ alternative to posh grub can have children feeling like it is a trip to McDonalds and therefore behaving like this too. To encourage children to get involved with the ceremony of the wedding breakfast it is achievable to have them eat food that they like but give them the feeling it is a little bit more fancy and encourage more mature behaviour during a time where they can easily get bored.

childrens wedding menuChildren often want to get straight to the desert and so serving them an appetiser followed by a main course will seldom be welcomed. Instead, serve a nice fruit cocktail for them to enjoy while the adults are having their starter. Make it exciting with fruit pieces, decoration and fancy straws.

The food on the menu should be a name they will recognise and ingredients they are familiar with. Any unusual taste may result in the food being rejected. The same applies with vegetables. This should be a treat for the children, not a lesson in sensible eating as such. Keep the food simple, although the presentation can be more exciting to make them feel like their meal is special too.

childrens wedding menuFish and Chips. Served in a cone to add interest, with the fish being served in smaller strips so they look more appetising to the younger eye. In general, anything where they are able to use their fingers to eat the food will be more welcoming

childrens wedding menuPizza. Served on sliced French baguette so they can be easily eaten as finger food.

Cheese and tomato is always a favorite, but you could serve different flavours on each piece of baguette so that the child has some choice, and the food looks interesting

Schildrens wedding menuausage and mash. Always a favourite. Keep the sausage meaty and plain in taste, not too many overpowering herbs. Don't have sausages that are too large or indeed any of the courses that you choose being too large, this will just put the child off. Remember at home they are normally expected to clear their plate, so a large meal can be offputting.

childrens wedding menuMacaroni Cheese. Served in individual bowls. Another kids favourite. Bacon or onions could be incorporated into the dish to make it more interesting, but in general children like to eat food they are used to with flavours they recognise. If possible give children the choice before they attend the wedding of which main course they would prefer. Kids like suprises, but not usually when it comes to food.

Schildrens wedding menupaghetti bolognaise. Keep this dish quite small as it is very filling for young ones. Keep the bolognaise sauce quite plain with little use of herbs. A little grated cheese on the top will make it look more interesting.

childrens wedding foodChildren will more than likely to be happy eating the same dessert as the adults although probably a smaller portion. If you are serving a dessert that you think might not be ideal for the kids you could serve a cupcake perhaps similar in style to your own wedding cake or a mini Eton Mess, which will go down a treat.
